SAFEmine was established in 2008, bringing GPS-based traffic awareness and collision avoidance technology to open-pit mines around the world. In 2014 SAFEmine was acquired by Hexagon Mining and formed part of their Mining Safety Suite. SAFEmine and it’s solution-based approach to mine safety has established itself as the leader in collision avoidance systems, fatigue monitoring and delivering extendable solutions that save lives.
SAFEmine's traffic awareness technology was originally developed in 2003 to provide an affordable and efficient collision-warning system for general aviation and recreational flying. As a co-operative system, SAFEmine™ is designed to minimise nuisance warnings even in high traffic densities with unsteady, highly- dynamic trajectories creating complex and dynamic traffic constellations. With over 25,000 units installed in mining vehicles, this technology has become a worldwide leader in field traffic awareness and collision warning systems.
Based on the demand for additional safety in open-pit mines, the company SAFEmine was founded and the original technology and aviation products were ruggedized and customised to fit the specific requirements of the mining industry. There are now several mines worldwide using or installing SAFEmine devices.
SAFEmine has offices in the USA, Switzerland and Australia as well as partners in South Africa, New Zealand and South America.
